Bonfire night is one of my favourite nights of the year, but my skin doesn't love it. Cold air, wood smoke and a layer of SPF or makeup all end up on my face by the end of the night.
Smoke and everyday pollution can sit on your skin and leave it looking dull, so a good evening cleanse is worth the extra minute.
Here's a simple routine.
Step one: cleansing balm or oil on dry skin to lift away makeup, SPF and grime.
Step two: a gentle cleanser to wash it off.
Step three: a hydrating serum on damp skin.
Step four: moisturiser to seal it in.
If your skin feels irritated or tight after being out in the cold, skip any strong actives for the night. Keep it calm and let your skin rest.
And if you're too tired for all four steps (I get it), do the first two. A proper cleanse matters more than anything you put on afterwards.
Evening routines are easier to stick to when you can see them working. In Home of Skin, you can keep your products in your product cabinet and add a quick note in your journal about how your skin feels in the morning.
