Hyaluronic acid is in almost every hydrating product out there, but it's easy to use it in a way that doesn't do much.
It's a humectant, which means it attracts and holds onto water. That's great for dehydrated skin, which is skin that lacks water, not oil.
The trick is how you use it. Apply it to damp skin, so there's water for it to hold onto. Then follow with a moisturiser to seal everything in. Without that last step, the water can evaporate again, especially in cold weather and heated rooms.
You'll find it in serums, moisturisers and even cleansers. A serum is the easiest way to add it to your routine. It suits most skin types and usually plays well with other ingredients like niacinamide and vitamin C.
If your skin is very dry and flaky rather than tight and dull, you may also need ingredients that replace oils, like ceramides.
Not sure whether it's helping? Add it to your product cabinet in Home of Skin and note how your skin feels in your journal for two weeks. Patterns show up quickly when you write them down.
